Laser Hair Reduction

Unwanted facial and body hair can be a cause of distress for both women and men. Laser Hair Reduction treatments reduce unwanted hair on the face and body. Esprit® Cosmetic Surgeons in Portland performs safe and effective laser hair reduction using the Cynosure ICON system.

How Does It Work?

The ICON handpiece emits pulses of light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair. Light-based hair removal permanently reduces unwanted facial and body hair, in fewer treatments and with more comfort than is possible with non-laser procedures.

We Are Here To Help

The best way to get your questions answered is to come in for an appointment.

Is Laser Hair Reduction Right for me?

The most commonly treated areas are the face, bikini area and legs. Dark hair is most easily treated as dark pigment absorbs light waves well, leading to heating and destruction of the hair follicle. The ICON system safely treats all skin types. Because hair grows in cycles, repeated treatments are necessary to destroy all the hair follicles. Usually five to six treatments are needed for permanent hair reduction.

Avoid sun exposure in the treatment area before and after your laser hair reduction treatment. The treatment itself is generally quick, the time depends on the size of the treatment area. The procedure requires no anesthetic and is generally not painful, due to advanced contact cooling technology and the additional use of the Zimmer Skin Cooling System. The most common side effects include a mild sunburn-like sensation, swelling, and redness that last one to three days.
